Caprica poster by mruottin Caprica poster by mruottin
A fan poster design for Battlestar Galactica spin-off series: Caprica

I pondered for a long time whether this series had enough mythos for a poster. Well in the very last episodes it did finally deliver and it still is a spin-off series for the coolest tv-show on earth... so I guess that is enough. ;)

This was designed to be pretty much an exact mirror image of my Battlestar Galactica poster [link] , but I wanted it to be a bit more gloomy and have some of that "old photo" feel to it.

The poster is yet another hybrid of drawing and some very heavy photomanipulation.

If her shape is the shape of things to come, I LIKE the shape of things to come. Once again, a fine piece of work with this, excellent.

Yeah, that is a rather nice "shape" for the future. :D
At least there's some comfort in a robo-apocalypse too, it seems! :D

I was so annoyed when this series ended. Sure, they tried to tie up the lose ends, but I really wanted to know how it was that a spoiled teenager was responsible for the Cylon revolt.

I would have been cool if they could have gone with the storyline all the way to the approach of the final five. :)

They have been mysteriously quiet about the bsg: blood&chrome project for a long time. I wonder if the material they've shot wasn't good enough for spinoff pilot after all.

I followed the link from your BSG-poster here and I have to say that I also like this Caprica-poster! I really like that "gloomy" and "old" feeling and I love that you added the line "The shape of things to come". Very very well done indeed! :)

Thanks for the both favs! :)

Didn't find any suitable Bsg&Caprica posters, so I had to make them myself. :D
I'm not sure if Caprica reached that amount of gloomyness on it's short run,
but I decided to make it look like that anyway! ;)

It makes sense with this subject matter. Zoe (and Caprica itself) is central to the story, with all the other characters relating to her, but not necessarily eachother, so it stands to reason that she'd be in the center of the composition with everyone else dotted about around her. And it looks nice. :)

Loved the series, but even Eric Stoltz admitted to having a feeling of " doom " about it. & unfortunately, he was right. It might've been too cerebral for most science fiction fans. I have a feeling they took too many trips into " V - World " / " V - Club ".....
Still, this is great ! :)

Yeah, I think they didn't quite know what to do with the series until it was too late. It was great, but it didn't reach its full potential, I'd say.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Bsg: Blood&chrome, though... but you'll never know how these pilots & series turn out in the end.

" SyFy " ( I hate that new name, or at least just not overly fond of it ) is becoming like Fox, which kills off some potentially good shows before they've found their footing, hit their stride, etc. ( Ex. : " Firefly " & " Alien Nation " before that ). If they hadn't been so quick on the trigger, we might've seen more w / the Adama family. Genevieve Buchner ( sp ? ) was woefully under - used, while Alessandra Torresani was in nearly EVERY scene, especially near the finale. But other than that, the characters were developing nicely, I thought. It was almost like " The Rise & Fall of the Roman Empire " on another world or worlds.
" Blood & Chrome " - I'm not sure if that series would be mostly action, or if they'd actually have character development. Like Babylon 5 - that had both. & BSG, of course. :)

Yeah, I think SyFy has a hard time deciding what to do with the bsg franchise. They probably can't really repeat the bsg success again. But I think all the bsg blu-rays and dvds are still selling well and they really want to expand that catalogue somehow.

There's tons of potential problems for "blood & chrome" ahead. Like where to go with the prequel story when you know already how it's going to end... and the use of digital sets doesn't sound very reassuring either. But I do trust Michael Taylors scripting talents, so it's a start. :)

& there's still a push on to make ANOTHER BSG version which would essentially be a version of the Original Glen Larson Galactica. Bring out the space disco outfits, sounds in the vacuum of space, laser projectiles, along with Lucifer, Spectre, Gold Centurions ( Vulpa ), & the Imperious Leader ! Oy !

Well, basically, people knew what the events of Caprica were leading to, that these indispensable electro - mechanical servants would revolt & make war against their human creators some 58 years later. Maybe Blood & Chrome will get a warmer reception.
As to digital sets - Babylon 5 was the 1st to use them. Hell, the entire Babylon station was mostly CGI, as well as the space craft.

I'm open to other versions of bsg too... I really loved that original Larson show as a kid.
I still doubt that even Bryan Singer can get that new/old version of bsg to the silver screen... or any other screen. ;)

In B5 era it was enough to stand before a green screen and let a bunch of Amigas do the space window background. :)
B&C needs at least some sort of physical presence to its sets. But I'm sure they know that in the ongoing production.
It just all comes down to money or in this case lack of it. ;)

Yeah, I liked it too, but sometimes it got a little TOO warm & fuzzy. AND it borrowed too much from Star Wars ( Centurions looked like Darth Vader or his Storm Troopers in chrome, Lucifer & Spectre like effeminate versions of C - 3PO, The Imperious Leader instead of Emperor Palpatine, etc. ) Richard Hatch made a 30 - minute pilot / intro / teaser for BSG : The Second Coming before Ronald D. Moore's BSG, I've seen about 5 minutes of it on YouTube & I think RDM could've nicked some of the ideas from IT for his series. Just sayin'.:)

They could reuse some of the sets from RDM's BSG for B&C, if they're still standing. Even in the age of Amigas & " Video toasters " B5 still constructed a pretty convincing space station & space ships, as well as the ruins on the bombed - out Narn homeworld & the external shots of the palace on Centauri Prime, Minbar, etc. They still did very well. To be honest, I miss Londo greeting Vir with his " Ahhhhh ! " & then Morden w / his effusive " Ahhhh..... ! " right before he destroyed the Shadow's base on Centauri Prime. I think I'll rent the different seasons from Netflix as a wave of nostalgia sweeps through my neurons. ;)

I read that they scrapped all the bsg sets after "the plan". They did 3d shoot the CIC set for future use, but I have trouble believing that it could work well with green screen stuff.

Actually now that you mentioned it, I've got a sudden urge to start watching B5 again. It's been long overdue anyway! :)
